Southern Voices’ aims are to:
- Aspire young people, communities and institutions on tackling issues of global concern, social justice and equity
- Build bridges and connections between the people of the South and North globally,as we believe that through working together we increase and consolidate our effectiveness.
- Create channels and cultural media through which we encourage critical debate, dialogue and discussion among Southern people; and open up spaces where myths and stereotypes of the Global South can be challenged
South is used to refer to countries in the so-called ‘third world’ or ‘developing world’. North refers to the industrialised world. As first used in the Brandt Report (1980).
